Carnaval

Bien se afirma que el carnaval ha nacido de las tinajas del vino cantor. Paganismo y alegría tanto en Cerrillos ubicado en el valle de Lerma en Salta como en Humahuaca donde el colorido de disfraces, el juego con agua y harina y los bailes de murgas y comparsas divierten a su gente.

How apt, the saying that Carnival was born from terracota vessels of singing wine! Joy of living and paganism come together in Cerrillos, in Salta's Valle de Lerma, and in Humahuaca, Jujuy, where roisterers wear brightly coloured costumes, playfully sprinkle each other with flour and water, and dance in festive parades of fun and laughter.

Serenata a Cafayate

Fiesta de un pueblo donde se manifiesta lo más autentico de las tradiciones folclóricas salteñas en noches de serenata enmarcadas por idílicos paisajes y la presencia de los mejores artistas del país. Un duende cautiva a quienes van por primera vez y regresan año tras año hechizados por la alegría de iniciar el canto con la luna y terminarlo abrazados al sol.

This is a popular feast, in which the most authentic folkloric traditions of Salta come to life in an idyllic natural setting, to the sound of music performed by the best artists in the country. It is said that a goblin casts a spell on the traveller who comes here for the first time, so that he must return year after year to experience the enchantment of song that commences with the moonlight and ends in the sun's warm embrace.

Fiesta de la Pachamama

El primero de agosto es una fecha de gran significación en la gente del norte argentino. Se inicia el mes donde los pastajes de los campos y especialmente en los cerros se queman para que se renueven y se inicie un buen pastoreo cuando lleguen los días de pariciones en las manadas. Por ello el día primero se realiza la Fiesta de la Pachamama o Madre Tierra.

The first of August is a highly significant date for northern Argentines. This is the time to begin burning the pastures in fields and hillsides, to ensure good grass for the new-born kids and lambs. The Pachamama, or Mother Earth Feast is celebrated on this day. A large pothole is dug on any farm or humble dwelling, and delicious treats are placed within to feed the Pachamama.

Agosto

Fiesta del Milagro

Votos sin fin del amor de un pueblo a las sagradas imágenes del Señor y La Virgen del Milagro que se renuevan todos los años. Una genuina celebración donde se manifiesta la identidad de Salta y ligada estrechamente a la fundación de la ciudad y su historia. Cuando al frente de su magnifica catedral florece el centenario lapacho en el mes de agosto, se entronizan las imágenes y en septiembre comienza la novena que culmina con solemne procesión donde más de ciento veinte mil personas acuden a honrar a los Santos Patronos.

Each year the people of Salta renew their loving homage to the images of the Lord and Virgin of Miracles. It is a genuine celebration, in which the identity of Salta and its close link to the foundation and history of the city are clearly manifest. The images are enthroned in August, when the ancient Lapacho tree breaks forth in purple pink blossom opposite the magnificent cathedral. In September, the novena culminates in a solemn procession with over 120 thousand participants who come to honour the Patron Saints.

Septiembre

Fiesta de Iruya

Representa en la actualidad la fiesta más auténtica en el norte en honor a la Santa Patrona del pueblo. Una amalgama de lo sacro y lo pagano que se traduce en bailes honrando a la virgen y la dramatización de la lucha entre el bien representado por un hombre disfrazado de toro y el mal representado por un hombre disfrazado de negro, jorobado con botas y pantalones de montar.

Sorprende visitantes el colorido de las trajes tradicionales, el sentir religioso, la feria del trueque y los festejos en las casas donde se canta y baila hasta llegar la madrugada.

This is the most authentic feast in the north, celebrated for the village's Patron Saint. It is a true amalgam of sacred and pagan rites, with much dancing in the Virgin's honour, and dramatization of the struggle between good and evil. A man dressed up as a bull represents Goodness, and a hump-backed man in black, with riding boots and trousers, represents Evil.

Visitors are impressed by the colourful traditional costumes, religious fervour, the bartering fair, and home celebrations with singing and dancing until dawn.
